Mrs. Bun Roeung's Ancient House is a beautifully preserved traditional Khmer wooden house located in Vat Kor Village on the west bank of the Sangker River in Battambang. Built in the early 20th century, this historic residence showcases classic Cambodian architecture with its elevated structure, intricate wooden carvings, and traditional design elements. The house has been carefully maintained by the Bun Roeung family for generations and offers visitors a rare glimpse into the lifestyle of a prosperous Cambodian family during the French colonial period. The interior features original furniture, family heirlooms, and period decorations that tell the story of Battambang's rich cultural heritage. Visitors can explore the various rooms, admire the craftsmanship of the wooden construction, and learn about traditional Khmer domestic life. The house is part of the Vat Kor Village heritage area, which contains several other well-preserved colonial-era buildings. It's an excellent destination for those interested in architecture, history, and Cambodian culture.
Lots of history shared by the host during my visit. It was bittersweet knowing that so many people used this amazing house as the only source for water during Khymer Rouge reign of terror.

Well preserved and beautiful Cambodia ancient house!\n\nHowever the ticket price for local seems to be overpriced.\n\nThe house keeper welcomed the foreign tourists and local in different ways.
I was kindly shown around individually by the owner to save me waiting for 40 minutes for the next group to arrive. It cost $2 which I thought was reasonable. It took about 20 minutes to tell me about the place and then I was free to wander around on my own and take photos. I was not pressured into buying any souvenirs. The house is old and was built in 1920 so we would not call it ancient; something slightly amiss with the translation. It was interesting but do not make it a priority. Fit it in if you have nothing else to see.
+ The house is extremely old, yet magnificent, and it's a real chance to be able to visit such a beautiful architecture, filled with ancient artefacts.\n\n- The unpleasant part was the way we were absolutely rushed through a mechanical 7 minutes top visit (with absolutely no other visitor around), and given a presentation uttered robot like, emotionless. We weren't authorised to take photos while the woman was talking, and ordered to do so after she would be done. I'm not sure we saw the whole house, as there are pics of an ancient bed in the previous reviews, that never appeared while visiting. I bought a small Khmer scarf in the shop section for my son, so maybe that's why we weren't asked the 2 dollars previous reviews mention as a "mandatory fee".\n\nOverall and even though the visit could be rushed, I would still recommend it for the sake of this well preserved traditional rich Khmer house. But how wonderful it would be to feel that the guide was actually pleased to share its History...
