Ek Phnom Pagoda is an 11th-century Angkorian temple ruin located about 15 kilometers northwest of Battambang city. This ancient Hindu temple, built during the reign of King Suryavarman I, showcases classic Khmer architecture with its partially collapsed structures and intricate stone carvings. Despite the deterioration over centuries, the temple's exquisite bas-reliefs still display remarkable craftsmanship, depicting scenes from Hindu mythology and daily life of the Angkor period. The temple sits in a peaceful rural village setting, surrounded by rice paddies and crossed by small bridges over streams, creating a serene and picturesque atmosphere. A modern Buddhist pagoda with a large seated Buddha statue has been built nearby, adding to the spiritual significance of the site. During religious festivals, Ek Phnom becomes an important pilgrimage destination for local devotees. The temple complex offers visitors a quieter alternative to the crowded temples of Angkor Wat, allowing for a more intimate exploration of Khmer heritage. The site is easily accessible by bicycle or motorbike from Battambang, making it a pleasant countryside excursion. The combination of ancient ruins, rural charm, and active Buddhist worship creates a unique cultural experience.

Very cool temple to see. There’s both a new temple and some ruins which are older than Angkor wat, according to our tuk tuk driver. It was $1 per person which is fair enough if they have to maintain the place.
Wat Ek Phnom, an 11th century Angkorian Hindu temple. Easily accessible with a few wooden steps to climb and only about a 15 minute ride from Battambong's city center.\nUnfortunately, most walls have collapsed and looted, but still a nice place to visit since there aren't many visitors.\nWat Ek Phnom has many shady Bodhi trees and large tamarind and milk fruit trees, making it an ideal place to seek relief from the heat, and if you look closely, you'll see many pendulum bird nests among the large trees (near the front of the ruins).\nYou can also stroll around the moat of wat Ek Phnom and the temple ground. You're visiting a place of worship, so dress appropriately and be respectful.
Definitely worth the visit!\nThe entry was 4000KHR or $1\nIt wasn’t busy at all, when we visited there were only two other people there other than the locals.\nIt’s a temple from the 1100s in quite a bad condition, but definitely fascinating.\nThere is a modern temple right in front of it and a big Buddha just to the side.
It’s a nice pagoda, pretty much the same as the structures you would find at Angkor Wat and other temples from the Angkor Period. There’s also a little shrine inside the pagoda. You do have pay to get in. I find this p,ace to be one of those places you go and see it one time and you’re good. There’s no tour guide or anything from what I saw when I came. Hardly any people on a weekday.
