Ta Prohm Temple is located east of Angkor Wat and was built in 1186 by Khmer King Jayavarman VII to commemorate his mother, hence it is also called the "Mother Temple". Constructed from large stones, it was once a sanctuary housing high monks, priests, and dancers, serving dual functions as both temple and monastery. Over time, tropical trees have invaded the site, with roots sprawling across the temple and penetrating deep into the structures, causing internal towers and walls to collapse. The once orderly architecture has become a "labyrinth" where rubble and vegetation intertwine. This site was also featured in the film "Tomb Raider".

このお寺の本堂の裏手（西側）に（UNTAC）での活動中にお亡くなりになった中田厚仁さん、ジャーナリストの石山幸基さん両名の慰霊の碑があります。
コロナの影響で、観光名所や映画館などの娯楽施設は閉まっていてどうしても行動範囲は限ら\nれる中の2121年6月12日、\n国連ボランティアとして活動中に1993年に殺害された中田厚仁さんの慰霊碑をお参りしました。\nプノンペンの王宮近くのウナロム寺の中にあります。\n隣には、内戦の取材中に亡くなったジャーナリストの石山さんの石碑も追加されていました。\n内戦の取材中には10人の日本人ジャーナリストが亡くなったり行方不明になったりしたと言われています。\n日本とカンボジアが国交を樹立したのは、1953年。再来年は70周年です。\n\n日本とカンボジアの関係を内戦前から調べれば非常に面白いとカンボジア在住の知人が言っていました。
