Phnom Bakheng is located about 1.5 kilometers northwest of Angkor Wat, near the south gate of Angkor Thom. This small hill rises about 65 meters high and is the highest point in the area, offering commanding views of Angkor Wat. The hill is home to Bakheng Temple, a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva. The main attraction of Phnom Bakheng is its spectacular sunset views. There are two ways to reach the summit: walking or riding an elephant. To enter the temple at the top, you need to climb steep stairs. At the summit stands Bakheng Temple, featuring a five-tiered pyramid base with five towers at the top, symbolizing the five peaks of Mount Meru. Besides the central tower, there are numerous smaller towers arranged in strict geometric patterns, though many are now in ruins. Despite its deteriorated state, the temple offers expansive views. To the west lies the vast West Baray, to the southeast is Angkor Wat nestled in the jungle, and to the south you can see Tonle Sap Lake in the distance. When the sun sets, the golden light creates a romantic and unforgettable view of Angkor.
캄보디아 시엠립 여행의 마지막날에 방문한 앙코르 국립 박물관. 입장료는 인당 12달러고 오디오 가이드는 1개에 5달러다. 입장료는 카드 결제와 현금 결제 모두 가능하다. 캄보디아 물가 대비 입장료가 좀 비싸지 않나 생각했는데 생각보다 좋은 박물관이었다.\n\n앙코르와트 방문 전에 보면 좋을 것 같다는 후기가 많았는데 방문 후에 보아도 알고 있는 것과 연결지어 새롭게 알게 된 것들이 많아서 좋았다.\n\n시대별로 정리가 잘 되어 있고, 오디오 가이드 역시 한국어로 제공된다. 유물 번호에 해당하는 것을 누르면 설명이 나온다. 기본적인 내용을 알고 가면 훨씬 더 이해가 잘 된다. (나가, 힌두교, 불교와 기본 신들…)\n\n각 홀마다 순서가 있는데 따라가기만 하면 되어서 길 잃을 것도 없이 편하다. 홀 내부는 사진촬영이 안된다. 빨리 보면 한시간 정도, 천천히 다 보려면 3시간은 잡아야 할 듯.\n\n다 보고 나니 자야바르만 7세가 참 대단하구나… 싶었다.
입장료는 12$인데 툭툭을 이용해서 박물관을 오는 길에 여행사에서도 동일가격에 입장권을 판매하고 있어서 편리합니다. 내부는 촬영불가라고 안내표지에 되어 있으나 동영상이 아닌 사진을 찍는 것은 별도로 뭐라고 하지는 않습니다. 1000여개의 불상을 모아놓은 전시실과 캄보디아 고대 유물들까지 둘러보면 2~3시간이 금방 지나갑니다. 앙코르와트만이 아니라 이곳도 둘러보면 좋을 듯 합니다.
