The Kampot Salt Fields are one of the most picturesque and unique attractions in Kampot Province. Located just outside the town, these traditional salt fields showcase centuries-old salt production methods that are still in use today. Workers carefully flatten the terrain and fill shallow pools with seawater, which evaporates under the tropical sun to leave behind pure white salt crystals. The salt fields are especially stunning at sunrise when the water-filled pools reflect the sky like mirrors, creating a magical landscape. Visitors can observe the salt harvesting process, learn about traditional production techniques, and witness the hard work of local salt farmers. The best time to visit is during the dry season when salt production is at its peak. The fields are easily accessible by bicycle or motorbike from Kampot town, making for a pleasant countryside excursion.

Salt production has a long history in the region, but the industry grew rapidly in the 1940s and 1950s. During the Khmer Rouge and the Cambodian civil war, production was nationalized.\nIn 1986, a group of Kep residents were granted 50 hectares of land by the state and given permission to start salt production as private entrepreneurs.\nSea salt is extracted from the seawater through salt evaporation ponds in the coastal Kampot and Kep provinces. Salt farms now cover around 4,748 hectares of land in both provinces and are owned by 200 families who are members of the Kampot-Kep Salt Association.\nSo interesting try to go just as the sun is setting .\nThe people are welcoming and friendly
