バプーオン寺院 (Baphuon Temple)は通王城内に位置し、バイヨン寺院の北西約200メートルにあります。ウダヤーディティヤヴァルマン2世によってヒンドゥー教のシヴァ神に捧げられた国寺として建てられました。この壮大な建築物はかつて通王城の中心であり、都市が建設される前から存在していました。寺院の大部分が崩壊しているため、残っている彫刻は少なく、散乱した多数の石があなたの最も深い印象となるかもしれません。寺院には3列の円形石柱で支えられた200メートルの歩道があり、中央に十字形のパビリオンがあり、両側に池があります。ピラミッド型の須弥山寺院は3層の基壇で構成され、急な階段があります。寺院の裏側には、第2層の壁に長さ70メートル、高さ9メートルの涅槃仏が彫られており、アンコール遺跡では珍しい光景です。
